Encounter. This is a painting of a space probe flying past a bright comet such as comet Hale-Bopp. In fact, the appearance of the inner coma is loosely modeled on observations of Hale-Bopp itself. The original is a 6 by 10 inch acrylic on illustration board, completed March 1997.
