Welcome to HiMap, the HiRISE Image Suggestion Interface. A number of tools and features exist to make data more available and accessible.
The map can be blocked by holding the alt/option button on the keyboard. This is useful when trying to scroll away from the map, so that the scroll isn't captured as a zoom.
The basemap can be changed using the dropdown menu. Navigation tools, including a gazetteer and dynamic graticule, can be toggled by the user. Caching is automatically turned on, and allows the user to return to the same location and zoom as when they were last on the page. This allows for seamless access to HiRISE images, CRISM product pages, etc, without losing one's place on the map.
In addition, the map is searchable - just type in the first few letters of the feature you're trying to find into the search tool. A list of all relevant place names will be displayed, and you can navigate to any one of them by clicking on the name.
Use the map above to browse HiRISE, CTX, and CRISM MTRDR image footprints, and to navigate to their data & product pages. HiRISE images can also be accessed in full resolution via a linked IIPMooViewer. The footprints are updated weekly, although a daily update script is coming soon.
Dynamic loading is here! The HiRISE and CTX footprint catalogs now load only as they are needed, avoiding the long loading times and temporary freezing caused by loading in the entire catalogs. The CRISM MTRDR catalog is small enough so as not to need this. The blocks are 10°x10° - if you're looking for images close to a border between blocks, make sure all adjacent blocks are loaded by moving a little beyond the required area in all directions.
The image suggestion tool, which remains unchanged from its Marsoweb implementation (it functions as a downloaded Java applet), can be accessed with a set of coordinates or by launching from the current center of the map view.
HiWeb's Image Suggestion Tool (IST) is configured to launch via the use of Sun's Web Start technology. The HiWeb IST should launch automatically for your chosen region, but if it doesn't, you may need to install Web Start on your computer. You can do this by installing Java 2, v1.4. If the HiWeb IST launches, but you don't see the button panel at the bottom, this also indicates you need to install Java 2, v1.4.
Download and install Java 2, v1.4 for:
Mac OSX
Linux, Windows, & Solaris (click on the "Download JRE" link)
This version of HiMap is still under development. Please contact us via one of the emails at the bottom of the page with any bugs that you encounter or requests that you have. Thanks!
The previous version of the HiWeb Image Suggestion Facility is available here.
