Laboratory Resources
The Planetary Image Research Laboratory consists of hardware, software, and people dedicated to providing support for image processing, data access and analysis for researchers in the planetary sciences. Access to PIRL's electronic resources is via remote connection by SSH or the Web, or at PIRL's public user room, located at the Sonett Space Sciences building in Tucson, Arizona.
Specific offerings include:
- Linux clusters for number crunching power.
- Data storage and access for active and archival datasets related to the planetary sciences.
- User room with high resolution dual monitor workstations.
- Extremely specialized stereo Digital Elevation Model (DTM) production workstations.
- A 60" photo quality large format printer.
- A variety of useful software and tools.
- Rooms for meetings.
- Technical support.

PIRL also provides administrative, data and software support for research groups with related missions. These groups presently include Spacewatch, the Catalina Sky Survey, the Space Imagery Center, The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter camera (LROC), ESA's CASSIS imaging system on the Trace Gas Orbiter, and the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter HiRISE group.
