P/1998 S1 (LINEAR-Mueller)

This image of Periodic comet LINEAR-Mueller was obtained on 1998 December 14 with Spacewatch. The image is 5.7 by 6.3 arcminutes on a side with North at top and West to the right. The coma diameter is about 31 arcseconds in this co-added image. The inner coma structure is reminiscent of the appearance of 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 1, though smaller and fainter. This image is the result of co-adding 3 consecutive images, shifting them to account for the comets motion. (Click on the thumbnail for a larger view.)
