88P/Howell

This image of Periodic Comet Howell was obtained on 1997 December 31 with Spacewatch. The image is 4.5 arcminutes square with north at the top and west on the right. The image is a result of co-adding 3 images. The stars therefore look like 3 similar images all in a row. You can just make out a faint tail towards the p.a about 70 degrees in this image. The faint nearly vertical streak to the right and below the comet is a glint of a satellite during the exposure. Click on the thumbnail for the full view of the comet.
