I believe that the most useful courses I took were "Home Economics" in Junior High. There, I learned to cook and sew, therefore (hopefully) separating me from other computer tech-weenies that think a gourmet dinner is pizza and beer ( it isn't, unless the beer is home-brewed or a good import ).
So, when my wife is out of town, I cook my own nutritionally balanced food, not necessarily restricted to vitamins "P" and "B" ( Pizza and Beer ).
Being a self-proclaimed Gear Pig, means that whenever I am unsatisfied with a a piece of gear, or I actually manage to wear something out, I can drag out the trusty old Singer Straight-Stitch 404 and a roll of upholstery thread, then stitch away till things are fixed. Recent projects have been the replacement of the bottom of my pack after riding the "Olympic Class Bum Slide" down the Interglacier on Mt. Rainier, gear-loop gear slings, etriers, repairing squirrel and flame damage on friends' equipment, plus most recently, a fancy fitted ground cloth for my 4 season tent. Still on the list are repairing an ice-axe hole in the knee of my mountain pants ( don't ask how THAT happened! ).
I also hold a Private Pilots license ( single engine land ), and have about 100 hours in Cessna 150's and 172's.
