Middle Sister - on Skis!

Jonathan and Joe In May of 1996 I went up to visit my friend Jonathan and his wife Pam in Oregon. Poor Pam had work to do, so we were left up to owr own devices.

The approach to Middle Sister was a little ominous..

Wind!
So we decided the best thing to do was camp in the trees, tank up on the 12 year old single malt and,
Read Hemingway.
The next morning it was time to start up the hill. That's Middle Sister on the left, Prouty Point on the right.
This is Fat Boy trying to catch up to me!
Then time out for some pics of each other, and then the final slog to Prouty saddle. Jonathan is in the lower right of both pictures to the left.
The summit ridge to Middle Sister was too icy to climb (we didn't have crampons or axes, like we did last year) so we entertained ourselves by flying my Mt. Rainier booty kite at the saddle. That's Prouty Point behind Jonathan. Kite
Tele Then it was time to do what we came for! The snow was perfect..
Then after lunch we skied ALL the way to the snow line. Jonathan Joe
Then on the road in plenty of time for a trip to the Deschutes Brewery in Bend (many of our friends probably won't believe it, but, yes, it is STILL light out!). That's Broken Top, South Sister, then the Middle and North Sisters behind us.
