This FAQ covers some of the common problems and noted difficulties running MapMaker.
The mosaicing process for the lower resolution maps (16 pix/deg) left a few pixels off of the right
hand edge (East) of each image. Since these tiles have been designed to have overlap, and since
MapMaker lays tiles down from left to right, this artifact will not be seen in MOST maps. However,
using a Mercator or Simple Cylindrical projection near the poles may cause this blank data to be
written to the map. A noticeable dotted line, or zipper, along the tile boundaries may be seen.
An alternate locator file that accesses the browse images from each CDROM is being created.
MapMaker can access data sets from a CD-ROM Jukebox with proper initialization of the
associated ".des" file. MapMaker uses the path convention /DEVICE/CDROM/FILE
(where /DEVICE is the absolute path to the Jukebox). If the Jukebox being accessed does not follow
this convention, then changes must be made to either the ".des" file or the ".loc" file (see
MAPMAKER APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT).
Example: If the "mars" dataset path is
MapMaker has limited capability to issue mount and unmount commands to a Jukebox. Due to the variability of Jukebox mount commands, this feature is not comprehensive. If your Jukebox requires mount and unmount commands to access CD's, contact your system administrator to set up the appropriate script to fit MapMaker's architecture (see MAPMAKER VERSION 2.0 INSTALLATION AND CONFIGURATION MANUAL).
