These four frames trace the reconstruction of Bands B, C, and D (Fig. 4a) as

follows: (a) original "wedges" image (C3 orbit), with data gaps; (b) closure of Band B; (c) closure of Band C; (d) closure of Band D; Lineament L and Island O have been aligned, providing geometric confirmation of the reconstruction. The opening of the bands included a significant dilational component. As with Ridge C2a (Sec. II.2), Bands B, C, and D are gaps in the lithosphere, rather than graben, because they closed by at least their full width. Since Band A was ultimately not reconstructed due to a lack of apparent piercing points, the territory northwest of it has been removed in the reconstruction images.
