Figure 7. View looking down the Euler Pole. When seen looking down the Euler pole (48°S, 247.25°W), Astypalaea Linea follows a sequence of small circles centered on that pole (cross). Here we have drawn a circle around the Euler pole to illustrate the segmented circular form. The fault does not follow a single circle because of the stepovers at Cyclades Macula and the possible rhomboid at Rs. For example, straight segment S2 is slightly farther from the Euler pole than segments southwest of it. The image used here is a polar reprojection of a United States Geological Survey mosaic of Voyager images. The south pole is located within the region with no image coverage.
